The Ompa Lumpa Gets one !!!!
Courtney takes the Win!
The South Island Surfing Grom Series travelled to Dunedin on Saturday 30th of January for its third and final event. A large Christchurch contingent made the journey south to the legendary St Clair Beach to contest the last event in this series. The morning dawned bright and clear but the wave conditions were far from their usual perfect standards. The event organisers South Coast Boardriders chose to delay the start to allow the tide to push in, to help the somewhat variable conditions. |

We have only had Three South Island Judges renew their registration to date. It's concerning for the South Island that 23 Registered Judges and only Three Re-registered doesn't look good for any National comps coming down here!!!!
It's time to renew your SNZ/ISA Judging registrations for 2010. All judges seeking paid work at SNZ and ISA International events will need to be registered. Even if you are not intending to judge this year it is still recommended you pay the minimum Level 1 registration to keep yourselves on the SNZ and ISA databases.

Cody McCusker convincingly won the U16 Boys division of the South Island Surfing Grom Series held at Taylors Mistake on Saturday. With event organisers choosing to move the contest to the more sheltered Taylors Mistake the grommets were rewarded with pumping two to three foot peaks for most of the day. With the sun belting down, McCusker who made a somewhat slow start during the early rounds became a wave magnet in the Under 16 final, stringing together a series of long forehand waves that showed McCuskers ability to carve on rail back into the pocket. McCusker now has two wins, in this three event series, and no doubt he will be looking for a clean sweep with the next event due to be held in Dunedin next month.

The past few years have produced some very good user friendly waves with all involved having a fantastic day out at the North Wai Boardriders Clubrooms. There's always heaps of freebees for the groms and the Bar B runs all-day long with heaps of free sausages.
