Kristi Zarfieh won both Open and Juniors at the Canterbury Surf champs last weekend. Her second open win in two weeks. Leilani Morgan-Brain took out the Senior title and Eve Welsh surfed gracefully with some great nose riding to win the Longboard section.

The successful Canterbury Womens champs welcomes a new sponsor this year. O'Neill will sponsor the event hosted by tubular Belles Boardriders.
March 6th / 7th 2010
The event this year also includes a Senior event for all those young girls over 28 yrs.

Thomas leads ratings going into event three |

Llew Thomas leads the Open circuit ratings by just 10 pts over Hayden Brain going into the third event in Greymouth this weekend.
Jimmy Crooks lead the Juniors, Billy Harmon the Cadets, Hayden Brain the Seniors, Jonny Harris the Masters, Anna Hawes the Womens and Neil Robb the Grandmasters, and Dan warren the Longboards.
Waves and weather forecast are looking good for the weekend, with fine weather , SW winds and a good south swell.

The 2010 Go for gold is set for the 26 /27 February. Hosted by Kahuna Boardriders and held in the powerful waves of Greymouth. The Go for Gold always pumps.

New Brighton Boardriders Lew Thomas has won the $1000 at the Canterbury surf champs held in clean 2ft waves at Gore Bay.
With the final starting at 8.40pm, it was lights out for the other competitors early in the final. With 2 good scoring rides Thomas defended a late comback from Northsides Hayen brain who didnt quite get the 7 pint ride needed in the last minute. Kaikoura duo of Sam Dunfoy and Levi O Conner in 3rd and 4th respectivly.

The South Island Surfing Grom Series travelled to Dunedin on Saturday 30th of January for its third and final event. A large Christchurch contingent made the journey south to the legendary St Clair Beach to contest the last event in this series. The morning dawned bright and clear but the wave conditions were far from their usual perfect standards. The event organisers South Coast Boardriders chose to delay the start to allow the tide to push in, to help the somewhat variable conditions. |

The Canterbury Mens Surfing champs will be hosted by New Brighton Boardriders on Waitangi weekend 6 / 7 February. Event two of the South Island Surfing Circuit.
$1000 cash for the Open Mens first place.
The event is proudly supported by Exit Surf, Seventhwave wetsuits, FCS and SISCo's.

The final and deciding event of the South Island Grom Series will be held at St Clair Beach in Dunedin on the 30th Jan. The first two event of the series were held in Canterbury and scored great waves at Te Oka Bay and Taylors Mistake.
Young surfers from throughout the South Island will travel to Dunedin to compete. Cody McCusker (Kaiapoi) currently leads the U16 Boys ratings after winning the last event at Taylors ahead of Sam Courtney (Kaiapoi). Max Cooke (New Brighton) leads the U14 Boys. In the U12 Boys Harrison Whiteside (New Brighton) has a thin lead on Max Marshall (Sumner). Alethea Lock (Sumner) leads the U16 girls ratings.

What does SISA do ?
SISA is the regional sports body for the sport of surfing in the South Island and was incorporated in 1992. Its aim is to promote South Island Surfing and encourage member clubs to host events that will enable promising surfers to gain competitive experience for other national and international events.
SISA has an executive membership of 6 under the Presidency of Mark Perana. Executive members are elected annually at AGM. The office is situated at 73 Cygnet Street, North Beach, Christchurch 8009. All members of the Executive work on a voluntary basis. The affiliated membership currently stands at 16 clubs with a total of over 750 members. SISA has a Technical Director Aaron Lock and Coaching Director Mark Perana.
SISA caters for a broad cross section of the community and through the 16 affiliated clubs cover all the forms of surfing - longboard, shortboard, bodyboard and bodysurfing.
SISA is affiliated to Surfing NZ, the national body for surfing in New Zealand.
